Ellie Mae O’Hagan is a Strategic Communications expert with director-level experience, commentator and author.
She has been working in communications for nine years. In 2019, she became an ASO Communications Fellow after being trained by the internationally-renowned communications expert Anat Shenker-Osorio.
Ellie has also worked under the mentorship and guidance of Arun Chaudury, one of the most important figures in global progressive politics who served as the official White House videographer for President Obama and Creative Director for the Bernie Sanders campaign in 2016.
Ellie is currently the Director of the Centre for Labour and Social Studies (CLASS), overseeing all operational matters and managing a small, dynamic team of communications and research staff. In 2022, CLASS published the UK Race Class Narrative, an in-depth examination of the culture wars including empirically-tested messages that neutralise divisive rhetoric.
As an associate of NEON, Ellie has trained dozens of progressive organisations in strategic communications, including Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, JCWI, and a number of trade unions. She has coached hundreds of spokespeople to deliver their messages more effectively in the media, as well as training press officers to gain better press coverage. She was a consultant for the Framing the Economy research project, which transformed communications around economics in the UK.
Ellie is an experienced broadcaster and public speaker, having appeared on most major broadcast stations, and at public events across the UK, as well internationally. She has been a commentator and political analyst for 10 years, writing regularly for the national and international media. Her first book will be published in 2021 by 4th Estate.
Ellie lives in North London with her husband.
